Applications for Rolling Steel Tees
Steel Tees are not the most common section utilized in construction, but still offer up some good advantages when used correctly. Typically, structural steel tees are not mill rolled. They are produced by cutting the web of W and I shape beams. Cutting the web of mill rolled beams allows us the ability to produce a wide range of standard size and customized tees. This process is better known as “beam splitting”. Performed via flame or plasma cutting, these splitting methods produce a smooth and even edge on the stem of the tee, which is important to avoid any premature cracking of the stem when subject to tensile forces.
Under certain circumstances, structural steel tees can be used in many of the same applications with which you would typically use I or W shape beams. An advantage of using steel tees in place of beams is a reduced height and weight for the assembly. In the stem-down orientaton, a structural tee can be used as a span to support steel decking and concrete floor slabs. Tees can also be used to reinforce concrete T shaped beams and special “bar size” tees can be used to reinforce concrete bars. A good application for curved or rolled steel tees is for track. Anything from a ceiling mounted track to hang a curtain or partition, to a track intended for rides at amusement parks are all good uses for this unique shape.
Tees can be rolled either stem-up, stem-in, or stem-out. Stem-in is the most difficult, followed by stem-up and then stem-out. When rolling structural tees, it is very important to try and keep the stem and flange as square with each other as possible. Length and thickness of the stem or even the shape of the flange are properties of tees that can cause rippling or bending out of square when being rolled. Most bending/rolling companies roll tees to within a max ±5° out of square tolerance (stem relative to flange). Customers should expect an experienced roller/bender to provide a tolerance as tight as ±1.25° or less.

Stainless steel is the optimal material for a great collection of applications. The material is hundred percent recyclable and already recycled as raw material. Tee sections are ideal structural components for applications with corrosion issues.
Almost all stainless steel products that leave the factory were already used previously in a different form of steel or stainless steel. ‘New’ stainless steel products commonly consist of recycled content of around 60 %.
Stainless steel structural sections
The essential specification for stainless steels is that they should be corrosion resistant for a condition application or surroundings. The choice of a particular “type” and “grade” of stainless steel must originally meet the corrosion resistance requirements. Extra mechanical or physical properties may also need to be studied to achieve the overall service work essentials.

Tee Sections
T-sections, used in construction, are a load-bearing structure of reinforced concrete, wood or metal. T-sections are also known with different definitions as T-beams or T-bars. They are structural beams with a “T” shaped cross section. The market offers a wide diversity of several T-profiles:
- equal leg tees , where the width and the height have the same measure,
- unequal-flange tees , having the height being half the width’s measure,
tee-sections with a much greater height compared to the width, generally used in curtain walls.
Availability of Tee Sections
Stainless steel T-sections are available in three primary manufacturing processes: hot rolling, hot extrusion and plate welding.
T-profiles in stainless steel in laser welded execution are the most usual execution, less used in hot-rolled production and rare situations demand in extruded form.
The laser welded allows also for maximum design flexibility for any deviation from the standard that may be of advantage. All T-profiles are available in both imperial and metric sizes. T-bars are typically used for general fabrication.
Capacity of Tee Sections
The ability of T-Section varies based on the sign of moment either positive or negative. The resistance of T section is higher for the positive moment because the flange section would be in compression. But for a negative moment, it yields the same strength as an equal part without the flange.
T-sections in stainless steel are ideal structural components for applications with corrosion issues.

The required depth of beam will also reduce, as the flange or the web will contribute to sagging moment.
Tee Sections for aesthetic applications
Polished or even mirror polished surfaces on T-profiles can be more often sanctioned and seen in bathrooms and kitchens. The benefits are obvious; the highly polished surface is very easy to clean and sanitize.
At shops and in modern architecture, T-sections include several functions as a bumper bar or as edge protection. T-parts are used to reinforce the bases of glass tables.
Stainless steel T-profiles are also properly fitted into grooves of wooden tables to consolidate visual and practical duty.
Façades made with glazing very often include in the design the use of sharp edged T-sections as mullion to section the glass wall.
T-profiles or basic tees are the less common products in the world of steel structurals but are gaining popularity.
