SEYI Machinery Continues Hosting “SEYI Cup” to Nurture Industry Talent and Promote an Inclusive Society
The labor shortage crisis in Taiwan has led to massage manpower shortfalls in the manufacturing industry. SEYI Machinery (4533TT), a world-renowned stamping press maker, is keenly aware of the difficulties facing the industry in the cultivation of talent. Despite the current slump in the manufacturing industry, SEYI has continued to partner with the “Taiwan Society for Technology of Plasticity” and the “ Forging and Roll Forming engineering Research Center” (ERC) at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) to co-organize the ”SEYI Cup” Servo Press Stamping Process Design and CAE Simulation-Based Analytics Competition. The competition is aimed at pooling industry resources on the cultivation of talent in the metal forming and pressing industry. After several months of research and analysis, the final round of the competition and award presentation were held today (10/20) during the “iMT Taiwan – International Metal Technology of Taiwan” exhibition at Hall 2 of Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. The 21 teams included university teams from National Chung Hsing University, National Chung-Yi University of Technology, and NKUST, as well as 5 teams made of industry experts. Team CAPOO led by Yi-Hsiang Huang of NKUST was ultimately declared the winner. SEYI Machinery Continues Hosting “SEYI Cup” to Nurture Industry Talent and Promote an Inclusive Society Adapting to Industry Trends and Putting Theory into Practice Climate change is now a global priority. One-by-one, governments around the world have declared their commitment to achieving the goal of “Net Zero Carbon Emissions” by 2050. The goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has spurred revolutionary advances in automotive manufacturing technology such as electric vehicles and lightweight chassis design. Lightweight materials and new such as high tensile-strength steel panels, carbon fiber, aluminum alloys and other metal alloys are now increasingly used in the production of structural safety components. Taiwanese automotive part makers leverage their edge in high-mix, low-volume production and flexible production to compete in international markets. They are also actively investing in automated manufacturing equipment such as servo presses and expanding into new markets. Smart manufacturing technology is now being developed with an emphasis on modularity and smartness. By adding value to products, the industry can maintain its competitive advantage and sustainability. To narrow the gap between theory and practice for alignment with industry know-how, the challenge for this year’s “SEYI Cup” was the production of a S-shaped automotive cross-bean using a 980 Mpa high-strength steel plate. Using the stamping press mode on the SEYI SD2-200 servo press, teams must use the curve control points, upper and lower dead-centers, stroke speed, and form characteristics to carry out the punch motion design, followed by servo press process design and CAE simulation-based analytics. Finally, they must reduce the number of forming processes and produce high-quality stampings. The hosting of the stamping press competition will hopefully identify students with potential and interest in the field. By continuing to cultivate talent for the stamping industry in a sustainable manner, SEYI hopes to fulfill its corporate responsibility on upgrading the technology and output of Taiwan’s stamping press industry. Claire Kuo, the Chairman of SEYI Machinery, said: “The manufacturing industry in Taiwan already has a complete supply chain and ecosystem. Low birth rates and a generational gap in talent means the manufacturing industry is now facing a labor shortage crisis. SEYI is sparing no effort when it comes to talent cultivation in the face of such as a manpower gap. In addition to the decades of industry-academia-research cooperation and teaching internship, in recent years, SEYI has been actively targeting at the stamping press industry by organizing the "SEYI Cup" Stamping Competition to identify and hone the potential and interests of young students and to cultivate technical talents for the stamping industry. In addition, the company also works with social welfare organizations to support technical vocational education in remote areas, and to inspire children's talents and competencies through exploration of aptitudes and interests. In the future, SEYI shall continue make a contribution to the Taiwanese metal forming industry through its core expertise in the manufacture of stamping presses. We will also fulfill our corporate responsibility by incubating an even greater variety of talent.” Enabling Low-Carbon Production with Servo Presses On the day, Joseph Liu, the Executive Vice President of SEYI, also spoke about “Net Zero and Servo Press Technology〞. The servo press is a high-performance, energy-efficient, emission-reducing, green stamping machine designed to be smarter, greener, and more efficient. The technology has extensive applications for all kinds of stamping processes and industries; the direct-drive architecture, servo press-specific motors, low-RPM and high-torque motors, as well as integration of regenerative power system enables the effective reuse of energy. Electrical load levelization serves to modulate changes in electrical load during stamping and punch acceleration/deceleration. Keeping the power supply demand of the factory stable helps industry customers achieve low-carbon production. Steven Lee, Vice President of SEYI, stated that developments in green energy and electric vehicles suggest a rosy outlook for the transition of traditional manufacturing to high-end manufacturing. Demand is also expected to exceed that of low-carbon processes. SEYI Machinery is a global leader in servo press equipment. Medium and large SEYI servo processes have been adopted and praised by tier-1 auto part makers in the US, Europe, and Japan in recent years. SEYI’s servo press products have also obtained CE certification from TÜV Rheinland and recognition at the Taiwan Excellence Awards. In the future, SEYI shall focus increasing efforts on supply forward-looking and sustainable servo smart manufacturing solutions that will customers make the transition to a net zero future with low-carbon production and smart manufacturing.
Say “yes” to every job and position yourself for profit, with unique technology that drives efficiency and opportunity across the industry’s broadest range of applications.
